After helping prepare costumes for the 1973 exhibition The Tens, Twenties, and Thirties—Inventive Clothes: 1909–1939 at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Betty Kirke decided she would “try to solve the mysteries found in Madeleine Vionnet’s dresses.” She did that. And then she wrote a book about it.
